My Own Creation

This is my second DS106 assignment for this third section ūüôā

I was looking the cartegory of dessign  assignments and I found an assignment that fascinated me and definetely wanted to try it.

It is called “Design Your Dream Animal”¬†submitted by Danielle.

Create a brand new animal, using animal parts from no less than 4 animals. Be creative! When you animal is designed, create an environment for it! Have fun!

Process:

Look for a photo from Flickr and Google Image

‚Üď

Using FotoFlexer I cut a certain body part of each animal

‚Üď

Then I put it together

‚Üď

Using the image editor from my computer I added the backgroud color

‚Üď

DONE ūüôā

Story:

Well, I wanted to try this because it sounded really fun mixing 4 animals creating one animal from it. So, I started using an elephant but didnt go well and I kind of didnt like how it was going on. Therefore, I used an image that I saw on my PC that I used it before which I thought will be perfect as it shows clearly the face. I used my favorite animals, lion, eagle, elephant and a frog. Althogh the frog is the only animal that I dont like. Actually I kind of dislike them. Also I wanted to add a environmental image as a background. But I am going to show the face of an animal I thought it will be akward so I choose a simple background.

Here is the original animals and if you click the image they will take you to the actually website where I found them.

I really had fun doing this assignment and kind of like what I created. Searching for  photos of animals I found so many beautiful animals and I wish I could see them. But unforunetely I do not like going to zoo because I kind of feel sad and bad when I see animals without their freedom. In my opinion the animals should be free and the animals that are in the zoo dont seem free and as they are trained, I assume that they differ from the animals that live in a completely freedom. I would like to take a trip where I can see animals enjoying their freedom.

KONY 2012

“KONY 2012”

Here I am going to¬†provide some information and show¬†the reaction¬†of people towards the campaign “KONY 2012” and¬†to show the power of social media.¬†I¬†am going to use the arcitle¬†¬†The Kony 2012 Scam And Why You Should STOP Supporting ‚ÄėInvisible Children‚Äô¬†to show the negative side of this campaign which I agree with it.

Introduction of the campaign “KONY 2012”

¬†“KONY 2012” is a campaigned held by the non-profit organization Invisible¬†Children

                                    Their goal

MAKE JOSEPH KONY A HOUSEHOL NAME TO BE ABLE TO  CAPTURE HIM

The co-founder of the Invisible Children organization, Jason Russell, was the diractor and narrator  of the film documentary of 30 minutes long where they show the situation of children in Uganda . Also to encourage people, especially young people to support the organization by expreading the video through websites such as Facebook and Twitter. They also introduce the social media strategy that consist of targeting enlist politicians and celebrities, such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Justin Bieber.

So, Who is Joseph Kony?

The leader of LRA which stands for Lord’s Resistance Army. According to the film documentary, he basically kidnap children making boys ¬†into soldiers and girls into sex slaves. They also mentioned that Kony make children kill their own parents.

So, Joseph Kony is a dangerous man who need to be captured to stop him kidnapping children and killing them. When you see the documentary you get really emotional towards the issue and it encourages you to support them. So, most people decide to share it and here is the reaction in number for each social media

Impact

According to The Times in only four days, the Invisible Children 30 minutes film documentary obtained 40 million  views on Youtube. in only 4 days!!!

This is a data from March 16th, 14:20

FACEBOOK:

So the yellow circle is how many people talk about the issue, the red circle is their total “Likes” and the Blue one is chart showing the growth for each.

In its Youtube Channel, they have  79,385,169 views right now, and on Twittwer site, they have 417,668 followers

Here is a chart from a guy on twitter that posted showing how many twitts obtained in only 3 days

About the article

The article¬†The Kony 2012 Scam And Why You Should STOP Supporting ‚ÄėInvisible Children‚Äô¬†firstly mention how people share and support the organization just by watching the 30 minutes film documentary without doing any research or learn more about what is really going on in Uganda and the situation over there.¬†I completely agree with that because when I finished watching the video I realized the they lack of information about the isuue.¬†So I decided to watch some other youtube videos of local people’s reaction towards the film and other articles.¬†I realized that Invisible Children simplified the issue too much. There is a civil war going on there and the issue of Kony is a small part of the civil war.So the article argues that even if we are able to capture Kony the situation is going to have only a slight change.¬†Also it mentions that as most of the army of Kony are children, to capture Kony, most probably you will have to kill the victims children, So this issue is so much complicated than the films shows.

other issues that the article talks about are:

-The LRA is only 250 soldiers strong at this point.
-The LRA hasn’t been in Uganda since 2006

Acually some of the scenes in the film are situationof 6 years ago. The situation now in Uganda has change extremely in good way and so many children have access to school

-Ugandan army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting.

So the Invisible Children organization supports the local army. So basically if you are supporting the organization you are supporting the army that commits rape and looting

Also people do not really know where they are money is going and seems like most of them do not really care

according to the article

-Only 32% of money raised went to direct services (if you support the issue you may want to choose a more worthwhile charity).

The rest goes to the transportation fee for the members  film making fees and activities fees

I learned that it is easily nowadays to influence large number of people by making a well-film documentary because you have the social media. The rest is just up to the users to spread it in a couple of days by clicking one button. Do not get me wrong, I think the situation is critical and that Kony need to stopped  but I think this is not a intelligence way to do it. I was kind of concern how young people just do not research more about the topic having the access to the Internet.

A Whole New World

Hey guys! Here is my first DS106 assignment for this 3rd section :))

I decided first to go for one of the visual assignments called “A Whole New World” I read the instructions and sounded fun and easy to do it !

Here are the instructions:

“Take a picture of your subject (grandparents, pet, yourself) and put it into a totally different background in which they appear abnormally too small or too large. Think of Honey, we shrunk the kids…”

Process:

Step1 First I looked on Flicker a good picture that I can use for this assignment

Step2 Then I looked on my iPhone, a matachable picture

Step3 With Picasa 3 I changed a little bit the colors of each picture

Step4 Then with FotoFlexer, I edited the second picture of myself by cutting down and then put it on the other picture

Step5 With FotoFlexer, I used the effect called “old photo” to give the picture a better look, a old look

and DONE!:)

Story: Here I am going to put the pictures of my process

The original ones

Recently, I’ve been drinking too much capucchino that I think I got addicted to it. I used to hate coffee but I started drinking it since last year as they keep me awake. So usually when I wanted to keep awake all night to study I drink coffe or capucchino. But now I’m drinking it too much that the effect has weaken ūüėõ

Anyways, I love to play around and edit pictures. This was the first time to cut a particular part within the pictuer (in this case, myself) and put it into another picure. It was really fun and so easy to do it.

This¬†is a photo from Yuka’s Flickr¬†describing a food being served or eaten in an unconventional way instructed by the TDC36

French Fries are the only thing that I can eat from McDonalds. All started after taken English 0812 in Temple University Japan Campus. The class topic was about McDonaldization. So, we watched different kinds of documentaries about the fast food industry, documentaries such as Superzied Me. After seeing how animals are treated and know how much bad is to consume fast food, I could not eat it anymore, except for fries :P. I guess, the reason is because I love fries too much that it is impossible for me to stop eat them and also I did not see much about fries on the documentary.

6Songs Mixup

Assignment:

Hey guys! So here is my last DS106 assignment for this second section!

For the first time I am going to do an audio assignment. This time, I choose the assignment called ” Songs Mixup”

Basically, in the instructions tell us to:

Get short pieces from 6 different songs and put them into once piece. Can you identify all 6 songs?

So here it is!

So, were you able to identify all 6 songs? I am going to put the answers on the story section for this post

Process:

First, I choose songs that have different rhythms. After, I downloaded Audacity, a ¬†free audito editor and recorder. It was not that difficult and took me less than 30 minutes to finish editing it. Simply I cut the part that I wanted to use and then put all of them together through the process of cutting, copying and pasting. Then, I recorded using Soundcloud and DONEEEEEEEEEEEEE ūüôā¬†Approximately 3 secods for each song. So it is a little bit hard trying to figure out the song’s name.

Story:

1.  TURBULANCE by Steve Aoki featuring Lil Jon

2.  WHERE THEM GIRLS AT by David Guetta featuring Avicii

3. IT GIRL by Jason Derulo

4. WITHOUT YOU by David Guetta featuring Usher

5. RAISE YOUR GLASS by Pink

6. DOMINO by Jessie J

I enjoyed doing this assignment, because I could listen  to my favorite musics and relax a little bit. My favorite song from the listed songs in here, is the second one, David Guetta featuring Avicii, Where them girls at! The first and secon song were hard to identify in my opinion.

so how many songs did you get right?

Web 1.0 –> Web 2.0 –> Web 3.0

After having read the article What is Web 2.0¬†¬†written by¬†Tim O’Reilly, I ended up a little bit confuse about the definition on the term. So, I decided to read more about the definition along with learning what these terms, Web 1.0 and Web 3.0 mean.

Web 1.0 is basically the first stage of the World Wide Web. the firs generation of internet sites that primarily provided information. People where able to explore webpages with hyperlinks, but they were hard to make websites . Therefore, it was extremely high for the average person to create content or be able to voice their opinion

In 2004, Web 2.0 has been introduced as a social web, which made it easier for everyone to create a website where they can talk about anything they want with anyone they want. People now are able to interact throughout sites like Facebook. The community can write, discuss and comment. It is so easy for anyone to participate on the internet on any topic.

The web 2.0 is a social media

Blogging on WordPress, micro blogging on Twitter is a way to give people information or get information from others. Another social media can be Youtube, they can talk about videos. And Facebook can talk about pictures. In this Web 2.0 the users are essential. This is because without people writting or posting on the sites, they will be no interaction on sites. Therefore, users are responsible to produce the content.

people started to share photos and vides:youtube, flickr
people started to interact in social networks: Facebook, twitter
people started to publish content in blogs:wordpree, blogger

people started to contribute in wikis: wikipedia

The web 3.0 is the next step of intelligent omnipresent, a continuation on existing techniques. Here, the computers can understand the meaning behind information, they can learn what we are infested in. Then help us better finned what we are looking for. This is what the semantic web, web 3.0 is all about. It can recognize people, places, companies, produces and more. Also it can understand the relationship between things. In other words, its a recommendment system that make a personal approach by the webstte possible. For example, Amazon offers the clients the products that other people with the same interest bought before them. Last fm is a site where you can listen online music. By using smart systems, this sites are in the continuing learning process and they anticipate what their users like or dislike.

Midori to ExtraordinaMidori

Just realized I haven’t done any DS106 assignments in a while….:O

Assignment:

My second assignment is from the Visual assignment called Normal to Extraordinary

The instructions  tell us to :

¨Take a friend and turn him/her from a normal looking person to an extraordinary looking. Put the shots side by side for comparison.¨

I changed a little bit the instructions, because at 01 am (the time I was doing this assignment) no one, no friends were around me, so I just used an old picture of myself for this assignment

Process:

First I looked for an old picture of myself. So, I went to Orkut, a social networking similar to Facebook where I have pictures of myself when I was 16 years old ūüôā

So, This is the one that I decided to use :

The reason is because, I wanted a picture that shows clearly my face so I can do some interesting stuffs with my face LOL

For this assignment I used the image editor,  FotoFlexer. First I added the patchwork effect!

Then, I changed the main color to green!!!! And the reason I choose green its simple because of my name…Midori… LOL. Anyways, after that I made it colorful even more

Well, yeah I was not happy with the result, so I played around a little bit and when I added the Fresco effect it became cooler!!!!!!

Story:

This picture was taken by myself when I was 16 years old. Yeah, I just remembered that at that time, I used to love take picture of myself just for fun LOL

Looking at this old picture made me realized that I haven’t changed that much :O

About the assignment, I really enjoyed playing around with the colors and see how my picture makes an extraordinary changes by just adding effects. It took me less than 30 minutes. Well, this assignment is simple so I could have make it in…maybe 15 minutes but, I don’t know, I think I was so into this, that took me 30 minutes to finish it.
