Imagine myself and the society in 2022

Here is my blog post for this fourth section

After watching the vide of Bryan Alexander The Visible College: Four Futures for Higher Education of 1 hour and 30 minutes long、I started to think how our future or our next generation’s education is going to be like．

The requirement for this blogpost was to

Choose one of Alexnader’s four views of higher education in 20122 (this part of begins at the 37th minute of talk) and image how life will be in such a society．Since you will most likely to be finished with university by then、I’d like you to talk about imagined personal and professional life． You will have to build from Alexander’s model how society as a whole might be under the particular future scenario you choose

 

So to make this blog easier to read I am going to divided into two sections．First、I will talk about how I imagine myself and the second section will be about how I imagine the society involve in this particular change．Well I think is time to mentioning which scenario I chose．

There were four scenerios

1) Phanton Learning

2)The Lost of Decade

3)Alt．Residential

4) Reneissance

Which I found most interesting was the Phantom Learning．

Alexander Bryan’s presentation was mainly about the future of 2022．How in 2022 higher education is going to be like with the technology．Also how the society is going to be like．In the four scenarios he depicts positives and negatives views and how technology is going to be used in the next 20 years．

Phantom Learning: Mainly he described two views．fewer schools with distant education and plenty information provided．more online classes and most public schools will tend to be with AR layers

1) Firs I am going to imagine myself in the future of 2022．Most probably I will be graduated by then and have a job．However、for me learning is something is will never end．I imagine myself using computers and sites that I never imagine to be accessible to learn and share my ideas．Keep in touch with people through the social networking is a useful tool for my future．Knowing more people discovering other people’s thoughts and learning how the society and technology is changing will be a challenge for me．I imagine myself participating in online classes or watching other’s people’s presentations online．What I imagine is that students taking higher education do some project work with people from all over the world and share it to the public．Not only their classmates or students can learn but also adults that can learn from it as well．Also、it will be nice to have some online classes for adults that graduated so they can share information and at the same time help and advice students who is preparing to be a working member of the society．As I started to like taking pictures and share it to the public、I also imagine myself using my free time to take pictures and share it to the public．Also using the social media、I can make a group of people that have same interest and do some activities in the weekends．All for me seems so positive and improving communications among people will increase in my prediction．Nowadays I know that we can have access to people’s work but what I mean here、is something more beyond that．You can listen to lectures just like Scott used to do it in the beginning of the semester．Actually this ideas are starting to put on practice and some colleges have introduced them．In my opinion、as the time goes by more colleges will enter and eventually this system of phantom learning will spread all over the world．To conclude this section、for me in the year 2022 will be my opportunity to keep learning more and have access to higher education people’s work more easily and directly．

2) Now my view from the society．With this type of learning higher education students will have the opportunity to go outside classes and do projects．Using navigations and GPS、they even can have an online presentation showing the actual place、something like a documentary．Also if the online libraries become more widespread、more people will have the access to books and articles．Also what I was imagine is that you can even put feedbacks about the book so when other person is going to read to can have an idea of what the book is going to be or can share its opinion．People will become more educated and will use the technology as a educational tool．The society as a whole will be more connected and there will be plenty information about million kinds of topics．Also、creativity among people will increase．Companies can have more online discussions and meetings．Maybe to improve the quality of its product、consumers can take part of the meetings as an audience and share ideas．

All seems really positive、I am not going to say that everything eventually will become through online．But maybe face-to-face interactions between people will decrease．And I think、is this a really good thing? is it really good thing to rely on the technology ?  I have never done online classes、but in the near future I will like to have some、and see the positives and negatives side of it．If this way of learning spreads out and has a positive signs、in my opinion、it will make people’s life much easier and more fun．As I said learning for me continues for ever and the Phantom learning scenario that Alexander Bryan gives is a good way to get involve and continue to learn．As for the higher education in 2022、students will have a harder work as higher creativity and higher knowledge of technology will be needed but that will help the society to improve its education level

Children’s Book ~Cyberinfrastructure~

Assignment: For my second DS106 assignment I was required to choose a section that I never done it before．Therefore I choose the “mashup assignment” because I found the perfect assignment to use．It is called Mashup Children’s Book 

Instructions:

I decided to do this assignment as in the SOS section is mainly about our society’s future with technology．I did not wanted to change the topic so I decided to do something related with this section．And my target here are children．This is another reason why I choose the mashup of children’s book．I wanted to give the readers the idea of this assignment for me．

Story

I tried to depict the future of kids as have the control over technology．By control I mean that people will know what is the technology about．They will make use of it as effectively as possible  and will become an expert on it．However to be able to do that oneself need to work on it building its own cyberinfrastructure．The article written by Garden Campbell tell us this．Building a personal cyberinfrastructure is not easy．Campbell claimed that revolution in teaching and learning is happening and will continue to happened．For my understanding、more class online will be a great example for this and this revolution cannot be happened if each person does not build its own cyberinfrastructure．To do something you have to be able to understand it well-deeply and thoughtfully．Campbell requires students to have a technical skills and engage in works that contains social networking、knowledge management and more．What I think is important in this、is that understanding technology and dominate it is far from what I thought it will be．My purpose of using the Internet was to listening music、watch videos、social networking and those kinds of entertainments．However、I realized that I do not even know the half of what is technology all about．To be able to understanding I have to actually　get involve in it and experience it．What can you depict from the future above? It can be many interpretations．As I mentioned it depicts the future of kids nowadays．Also it shows how in the future people will get more into the technology and eventually will try to dominate it．Another interpretation that I have not mention it yet、its that it can depict the future of a professional with technology．To be more clear、no matter what profession you are engage in、technology will be always there．Just like I learned about the DS106 there is more to learn and more things to discover．Most of us have access to this technology but our understanding is limited．

Future Learning

My First assignment for the forth section

This time I chose an assignment from the Visual Assignment through this semester I really enjoyed doing visual assignments I enjoyed playing around with pictures and learn a lot of how to use an editing program

As I wanted to do something relating this course and this section I choose the assignment called Show Us Your Dream!!!

Here are the instructions:

Through this assignment, you get an opprtunity to show your dream. Bring any picture that yow want, but the photo must relate something to represent or connect your dream: job, plan etc… It does not have to be a one deream. You can choose and put more than one dream.
Be creative !!

 Well I have several dreams and I would like to introduce the a kind of a dream but I think it would be better to describe it as something I want to experience it

First the process:

I looked at Flicker but could not find any picture that I wanted to use so I went to Google Image and found these two pictures

Then with FotoFlexer I cut the earth part and put it together with the first picture

Story: This was a really simple picture and process however this depiction is exactly what I wanted to say .

I am talking about here a near future rather than a future after graduating from university. What I learned in these 3 month on the class of CIS made me realize how technology is advancing and there can be better way of learning. What I want to say is why not using the Internet to interact with other people around the world to share ideas works and learn more form each other? Just like the DS106. This is a good way of starting. Not only because you can show to your work to other but also others can learn from you can give you advices to improve your work. I really enjoyed doing the The Daily Create because I found really fun to take a pictures of daily things、things that I would have never thought of taking. Therefore I think that the idea of share ideas and learn not only from people in your college but from other college in another country is a really great idea. I would love to take another class that have interactions with people around the world. The video of Bryan Alexander was really influential for me. Nowadays we have Skype Messenger Google Document and many other programs where it has become easily to share information and possible to make any kind of presentation using programs such as Powerpoint or Prezi. Well my main point in here is that for my future I would like to see a global education that allows people to share with other people from all over the world through the Internet 🙂

Vice Online Presentation

Here I am blogging about the Presentation of Vice Online

I listened to 3 presentations, one from Alison about Student in Rutgers cyberbullying trial: ‘Overwhelmed’ by aftermathanother one from Delilah, about Pornography- A Gateway to Human Sex Trafficking,  and one from Nick about  U.S Poker Ban affects Mi llions.

This presentation was kind of interesting because I learned about from different topics about vice online

It was suprising about the guy that suicide because his roomate posted a video of  him having a sexual encounter with another men. Well I have seen some cyber bullying in Japan when I was in junior high school. Most of Japanese girls write blogs and share with their friends and school mates. I have read some girls that write nasty stuff about other girls revealing their  personal information. It seems that  cyber buylling is everywhere and it is easy to spread it to many people at the same time. Well I think that the guy did not have to get to that extend ending his life. But I do think that the punishment should be more strict as she only got  “a three-year program on cyberbullying, as well as 300 hours of community services without any additional legal troubles”

About the issue of Pornography, I was suprise how people especialy young children, get seriously addicted to it. How they spend all of their time pretending “studying” Regarding adults I do not have so much comment about it. But I am concern how children from their young age start to get addicted to those stuffs. In my opinion I think that the government should be more strict about the issue and try not to allow children to watch. Or educate parents to watch what their children are doing with computers or even at school to teach people how dangerous an addiction can be.

3:

Finally the third presentation was a about poker online game that got shut down by the U.S government. I firstly did not know such websites existed and that a website game can be considered to be a business for some people. It is crazy how people loose money on that and even some have that as a job. However only in the US is  prohibited. There are so many countries around the world that allow people to put their money  in online poker.

Haiku It Up!

Assignment: Here is my last DS 106 assignment, which is from the writting category: Haiku It Up! by Takeru Terajima

Here as the instructions

For the writing assignment, take a random Dailyshoot photograph and create a haiku using that image. Let the image inspire you to create a poetic haiku. Don’t know what a haiku is? The most common form for Haiku is three short lines. The first line usually contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables. Haiku doesn’t rhyme

It has been a long time that I dont create a Haiku. I think the last time I made one was in junior high school so, around 5 years ago. And this time I wanted to create something that connects with a topic of F.A.L.O, so this time I choose Malware.

Here is my Haiku

あぶないよ
じぶんをまもれ
マルウェラ

The translation is

It is dangerours
Defend yourself
Malware

Process: It is simple, overviewing what I learn on the presentaion of Malware, I created that three phareses and then I translated into English

Story: Here I am going to talk about a little of two presenters-one from Natasha, Home Computer Security and from Kristie An Understanding of Malware. First I did not know malware meant. I learnt that Malware is a term to discribe milacious computer software that damage your computer. There is so many kinds of malwares and each has different effects, some more dameging than others. Examples, can be malware that steal your information. According to both presenters, it is easy to prevent being attacked by malware, therefore, they introduced some ways to prevent from them. It is easy, you need to do things such as change your password constantly but choose a password difficult to guesss. Other things can be dowload anti-virus softwares, make backups of value information. I have been using computers since I was young, And I have being attacked by virus destroying my computer. So in total I think at least 5 computers were destroyed because of virus. and others got slow so I just bought another one. To that is why I make that Haiku. To prevent being attacked by Malware, you need to understand how dangerous it is and defend yourself.

Privacy and Surveillance

Last section me and my group members did a presentation about privacy on the net .Well I got interested on the topic so I decided to have a look at the articles of Privacy and Surveillance .The tittle The end of online privacy got my complete attention .After reading the whole article I realized I was familiar with the issue .Well I think most of us had experienced once so that is why I choose this article .

Basically this article talks about how Phone applications such as Facebook are able to get our personal and our contacts informations .The article starts with a message from the app that Im sure that most of use have seen it before

“Find your friends?”

Well recently I just remembered that I downloaded an app called “Draw Something”  and they recommend me to sing up my Facebook and that word came up .Anyways the purpose for “FInd your friends” is as it says they help you to contact friends from other social network .I assume that most of people click “OK” button Well actually I always do.But here is the scary thing that the article reveals .

 

They introduce a case where a Indian researcher investigates what happen when you accepting finding your friends. As a result the researcher reveal that “It was uploading the entire contents of your address book-names emails phone numbers-to the app servers” Well when I read this I was really scared to just imagine in how many apps I give my information. In a survey of 15 developers of popular iOS apps they found that 13 of them have access to millions people’s personal information . After revealing all of this horrible situation the article mentioned that the purpose for having our information is not to share it to the public but it helps them to connect the user to their friends and community. And the article goes on introducing other cases about online privacyWell the article does not give any solution for this well as the tittle mentioned it is the end of online privacy you do not have privacy anymore

So In my opinion one way of secure yourself at least a little is that if you are going to share to information with the app at least have to be a well-known app.I am sure there are more people that does not know about this issue and I think this is wrong If you going to have our information at least we  the users have the write to be aware of it right? The social network has become really a convenient tool but at the same time a dangerous one too You need to know how to use it if you want to secure yourself .

Choose the sentence from the first five paragraphs of Gardner Camppbell’s Personal Cyberinfrastructure essay that most appeals to you. Briefly describe how and why that sentence appeals to you (one or two paragraphs should suffice-unless you need more) 

MY ANSWER

I particularly think that the sentence in the 5th paragraph appeals to me:

“Yet higher education largely failed to empower the strong and effective imaginations that students need for creative citizenship in this new medium.”

Especially the part that is in bold.

WHY?

Well I think creativity is really important for a high education. It helps you to develop ideas and find solutions as well as interact with people easily and get use to work in group. Unfortunately most school’s in Japan do not put too much effort on creativity based on my experience. I went to Britain for 10 months when I was in high school and it was so easy to compare the education in Britain and Japan. At high school in Britain students are given more group work presentations and things that will give you the chance to use your creativity and share it with people. On the contrary in Japan you barely see a teacher that gives you group works or even is rare see a student using the computer to do a school work.

Since I started to study in TUJ it was really difficult to adapt to this new system but at the same time I really like it because is helping me to develop my creativity and become more sociable. And of course since I took this course I discovered some abilities of myself that I didn’t even imagine I had it. So I agree with the article that argues that higher education lack of creativity. Based on my experience I think that for your future (both your personal life and profession) it is better if students have the chance more to be creative.

My Own Creation

This is my second DS106 assignment for this third section 🙂

I was looking the cartegory of dessign  assignments and I found an assignment that fascinated me and definetely wanted to try it.

It is called “Design Your Dream Animal” submitted by Danielle.

Create a brand new animal, using animal parts from no less than 4 animals. Be creative! When you animal is designed, create an environment for it! Have fun!

 

Process:

Look for a photo from Flickr and Google Image

Using FotoFlexer I cut a certain body part of each animal

Using the image editor from my computer I added the backgroud color

Story:

Well, I wanted to try this because it sounded really fun mixing 4 animals creating one animal from it. So, I started using an elephant but didnt go well and I kind of didnt like how it was going on. Therefore, I used an image that I saw on my PC that I used it before which I thought will be perfect as it shows clearly the face. I used my favorite animals, lion, eagle, elephant and a frog. Althogh the frog is the only animal that I dont like. Actually I kind of dislike them.Also I wanted to add a environmental image as a background. But I am going to show the face of an animal I thought it will be akward so I choose a simple background.

I really had fun doing this assignment and kind of like what I created. Searching for  photos of animals I found so many beautiful animals and I wish I could see them. But unforunetely I do not like going to zoo because I kind of feel sad and bad when I see animals without their freedom. In my opinion the animals should be free and the animals that are in the zoo dont seem free and as they are trained, I assume that they differ from the animals that live in a completely freedom. I would like to take a trip where I can see animals enjoying their freedom.

KONY 2012

Here I am going to provide some information and show the reaction of people towards the campaign “KONY 2012” and to show the power of social media. I am going to use the arcitle  The Kony 2012 Scam And Why You Should STOP Supporting ‘Invisible Children’ to show the negative side of this campaign which I agree with it.

Introduction of the campaign “KONY 2012”

 “KONY 2012” is a campaigned held by the non-profit organization Invisible Children

                                    Their goal

      MAKE JOSEPH KONY A HOUSEHOL NAME TO BE ABLE TO  CAPTURE HIM

The co-founder of the Invisible Children organization, Jason Russell, was the diractor and narrator  of the film documentary of 30 minutes long where they show the situation of children in Uganda . Also to encourage people, especially young people to support the organization by expreading the video through websites such as Facebook and Twitter. They also introduce the social media strategy that consist of targeting enlist politicians and celebrities, such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Justin Bieber.

So, Who is Joseph Kony?

The leader of LRA which stands for Lord’s Resistance Army. According to the film documentary, he basically kidnap children making boys  into soldiers and girls into sex slaves. They also mentioned that Kony make children kill their own parents.

So, Joseph Kony is a dangerous man who need to be captured to stop him kidnapping children and killing them. When you see the documentary you get really emotional towards the issue and it encourages you to support them. So, most people decide to share it and here is the reaction in number for each social media

Impact

According to The Times in only four days, the Invisible Children 30 minutes film documentary obtained 40 million  views on Youtube. in only 4 days!!!

About the article

The article The Kony 2012 Scam And Why You Should STOP Supporting ‘Invisible Children’ firstly mention how people share and support the organization just by watching the 30 minutes film documentary without doing any research or learn more about what is really going on in Uganda and the situation over there. I completely agree with that because when I finished watching the video I realized the they lack of information about the isuue. So I decided to watch some other youtube videos of local people’s reaction towards the film and other articles. I realized that Invisible Children simplified the issue too much. There is a civil war going on there and the issue of Kony is a small part of the civil war.So the article argues that even if we are able to capture Kony the situation is going to have only a slight change. Also it mentions that as most of the army of Kony are children, to capture Kony, most probably you will have to kill the victims children, So this issue is so much complicated than the films shows.

other issues that the article talks about are:

-The LRA is only 250 soldiers strong at this point.
-The LRA hasn’t been in Uganda since 2006

Acually some of the scenes in the film are situationof 6 years ago. The situation now in Uganda has change extremely in good way and so many children have access to school

-Ugandan army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting.

So the Invisible Children organization supports the local army. So basically if you are supporting the organization you are supporting the army that commits rape and looting

Also people do not really know where they are money is going and seems like most of them do not really care

according to the article

-Only 32% of money raised went to direct services (if you support the issue you may want to choose a more worthwhile charity).

The rest goes to the transportation fee for the members  film making fees and activities fees

I learned that it is easily nowadays to influence large number of people by making a well-film documentary because you have the social media. The rest is just up to the users to spread it in a couple of days by clicking one button. Do not get me wrong, I think the situation is critical and that Kony need to stopped  but I think this is not a intelligence way to do it. I was kind of concern how young people just do not research more about the topic having the access to the Internet.

A Whole New World

Hey guys! Here is my first DS106 assignment for this 3rd section :))

I decided first to go for one of the visual assignments called “A Whole New World” I read the instructions and sounded fun and easy to do it !

Here are the instructions:

“Take a picture of your subject (grandparents, pet, yourself) and put it into a totally different background in which they appear abnormally too small or too large. Think of Honey, we shrunk the kids…”

Process:

Step1 First I looked on Flicker a good picture that I can use for this assignment

Step2 Then I looked on my iPhone, a matachable picture

Step3 With Picasa 3 I changed a little bit the colors of each picture

Step4 Then with FotoFlexer, I edited the second picture of myself by cutting down and then put it on the other picture

Step5 With FotoFlexer, I used the effect called “old photo” to give the picture a better look, a old look

Recently, I’ve been drinking too much capucchino that I think I got addicted to it. I used to hate coffee but I started drinking it since last year as they keep me awake. So usually when I wanted to keep awake all night to study I drink coffe or capucchino. But now I’m drinking it too much that the effect has weaken 😛

Anyways, I love to play around and edit pictures. This was the first time to cut a particular part within the pictuer (in this case, myself) and put it into another picure. It was really fun and so easy to do it.
